Join the nation's leading provider of Hospice Care and assist patients in documenting their life story. We partnered with a website where you print out questions, ask the patient then enter them into the site. The family received a printed, bound book with their loved one's life story. They also have permanent access to their loved one's records. This can be the most powerful gift to offer patient's families; a documented account of their loved one's life. Help us offer this precious heirloom that can be viewed for generations. A 30 minute training from the website trainer is provided to teach you how to use the easy program. All volunteers are required to attend a 1 hr Zoom AND a comprehensive in-person orientation to gain the knowledge you will need to work with terminally ill patients. Upcoming New Volunteer Orientation: Saturday, September 14th from 8:30 am - 4 pm Orientation is held at our office located at: 9655 Granite Ridge Dr. Ste. 300 San Diego, CA 92123 Continental breakfast and lunch provided. VITAS Hospice is seeking volunteers to sew Memory Bears or Pillows for the family members of those we have cared for that have passed away. Memory items are made from the patient's favorite flannel shirt, fluffy robe, a pair of worn-out jeans or a pressed uniform. Whatever most reminds their loved one of them. The Bears have proven to provide grief support in a most unique way. With our easy-to-follow pattern and instruction videos, their garments can be transformed into a precious memory for family members and other caregivers. This is a great way to provide comfort and support by using your sewing skills to lift the spirit of a family member or friend who has recently suffered the loss of a loved one. We provide you with stuffing and the family provides the fabric; you provide the talent and sewing skills. Support for sewing the bears/pillows is available from other Memory Bear Volunteers. Completion of one "practice bear" is required prior to beginning. We also make 14" square pillows and can provide that pattern to you as well.
