Mission Statement
Green Pastures' mission is to support families raising children with special needs, and individuals with disabilities, in the SF Bay Area through God's life-changing love, and to stimulate the understanding of that love throughout the church and the community. To see this mission fulfilled Green Pastures envisions: 1) The establishment and operation of safe, nurturing and stimulating homes where physically and developmentally disabled children or adults may develop physically, intellectually, and spiritually in a Christian and family oriented environment. In this context, the residents will experience the delight of their Heavenly Father, the love of Jesus, and the power of the Holy Spirit. 2) Providing the direct care and resources that will equip, strengthen and provide families with the on-going supports in order for their children to live and thrive at home for as long as possible. 3) Encouraging and educating the church and the general public to understand God's view of people with a disability and to become involved in their lives. All of Green Pastures program and fundraising efforts should speak into our culture regarding the inherent value and the potential contribution of people who have a significant physical or developmental challenge.
Description
Green Pastures is a state-licensed, nonprofit group home where six disabled children live on a long-term basis. Our four-bedroom home is located in Mountain View, and our "family" is fully included as one of the families on our friendly, kid-focused cul-de-sac. Our primary goal is to provide a small, family-like environment for disabled children where they are loved and challenged to develop their full God-given potential physically, intellectually, emotionally, and spiritually. In addition to the 6 children we parent full-time, we provide short-term care for children who live in their own home--giving the parents a much needed break. Our "respite workers", as they're called, often develop long term relationships with these families, while providing the care in the child's home.
