Mission Statement
Footloose is an arts-presenting and producing organization that also creates and develops original multi-disciplinary work in collaboration with artists from all fields of the performing arts.
Description
Footloose is an arts presenting and producing organization primarily focused on dance and hybrid dance theater forms that also creates and develops original multi-media work in collaboration with artists from all fields of the performing and visual arts, especially emerging and established women artists. The company provides resources and a home base for artists year-round at Shotwell through its residency program AIM: Artists in Motion and the annual Women on the Way Festival in order to promote their professional careers. Founded in 1972, Footloose ran Venue 9 from 1996-2004, then returned to expand Shotwell into a performance space and dance studio.
Eight of this year's festival participants developed their work through residencies at Shotwell Studios and/or The Garage. Over 2,000 female artists have been presented by Footloose since 1996. Once an artist has performed in the WOW Festival, she may be chosen for a full WOW production. This three-tier program allows artists to successfully exhibit their work at every level in their personal and professional development. Footloose provides administrative and production staff, space, equipment, publicity, advertising, plus essential morale support.
Mary Alice Fry is the Artistic Director of Footloose. She will be the project manager for the second annual 24 Days of Central Market Arts Festival. Centralmarketarts.org
