This was my first internship after completing my MPA. It was a rewarding experience that helped me improve my leadership, community organizing, and overall critical thinking skills. My recommendation for future volunteers is to be honest with the organization about what you hope to achieve through this experience. I made strong professional connections and gained great mentorship from organizational leadership during my time with AWOFINC. These relationships are still strong to this day. I am writing this review a year after my internship with AWOFINC ended, and I can honestly say that the things I learned during my time at AWOFINC have played a large role in getting me to where I currently am in my career.

My internship was a rewarding experience. It was hands on with multiple avenues that I was able to explore in the non-profit sector like event planning, grant writing, community building, marketing and more on a flexible schedule. There are many opportunities to move up as well as long term positions. The leadership wows me as they play an involved role that spreads inspiration throughout the team. I commend this organization for sticking to their values and making a meaningful impact on the greater Chicago area. One of my major highlights was being able to work with people from around the world and having the ability to see my ideas come into life even as an intern. I hope to visit one day and see the work that has been accomplished since the end of my internship!

Agreed (with other reviewer). No point in trying to help if you are requesting both Soc sec # & birth certificates. That's insane, beyond HIGHLY risky & clearly you can't promise that information will be kept safe, because there is not such thing. There's more identify theft than anything else out there. I'd rethink that to keep your volunteer's information SAFE & therefore, GET far more volunteers.

I didn't feel secure providing my SS# and a copy of my birth certificate for application processing via e-mail.
