Mission Statement
Asian American Arts Alliance is dedicated to strengthening Asian American arts & cultural groups in NYC through funding, visibility initiatives, and access to new resources.
We are a diverse alliance of artists, organizations, and individual supporters who believe that working together as a pan-ethnic, multidisciplinary community is essential to nurturing the development of artists and arts organizations, and to providing a political voice for this community.
Description
Formed in 1983, the Asian American Arts Alliance is a non-profit service organization dedicated to increasing the support, recognition, and appreciation of Asian American arts. We provide programs and services that support artists and their groups, and raise awareness of the enormous diversity of cultures, histories, and voices that exist within the Asian American arts community. Significant past accomplishments included sponsoring the first Asian American conference in New York City, Defining Our Culture(s), Ourselves, at Hunter College in 1991 and organizing the first national Asian American arts conference Beyond Boundaries, in New York City in 1993 (in collaboration with APAP). Today, we are the only pan-Asian, multi-disciplinary arts service organization in the country. Our activities include: Asian American Arts Newsletter; Asian American Arts Spotlight; A4 Website; bi-weekly e-Calendar; Grants; Advocacy; Resources & Referrals.
