We are in need of a local business professional to teach refugees new to the US about American work culture and expectations. Clients will begin with entry level positions while they improve English proficiency. Our refugee clients are anxious to work in the US and become self-sufficient, contributing members of society. All have the documentation necessary to work legally in the US. We will provide the curriculum and the location. We need YOU! Job Club classes will take place at our office on Fridays from 10-11:30am for 5 week rotations. A team of 2 or a single individual would work for this opportunity.

For inquiries contact Lorin Jones Refugee Resettlement Community Engagement Coordinator ljones@iiwisconsin.org Family Mentorship Mentors provide support to newly resettled refugee families in the clients homes by helping them learn English and adapt to life in the U.S. Days and times are flexible. 1 hour minimum per week with the same family Pre-Arrival Housing Set-Up Volunteers will work with our Housing Coordinator to help transport items and set up refugee family housing before their arrival, to provide a welcoming home. Volunteers are also needed to do grocery shopping the night before client arrival. Approximately 4 hours minimum on an as needed basis Appointments Volunteers will provide transportation and support to refugees. Volunteers will be required to remain for the duration of the appointment. Such appointments include going to the doctor, bank, schools, Social Security or DMV, and more Approximately 3 hours minimum per appointment; family or individual will vary per appointment Instructional Aide Volunteers will work under the direction of the ELL teacher to provide one on one or small group tutoring to adult students in person or virtually. In person class time is 10-11:30am Monday thru Thursday. Virtual opportunities can be tailored to the availability of the volunteer. Cultural Orientation Volunteers are able to commit to teaching for 1-2 hours per session for a period of 5 weeks. C.O. is a program that helps refugees become acclimated to life in Milwaukee and aids them in achieving self-sufficiency Job Club Volunteers will help refugees who are job seekers and provide support as they are on the job hunt. Duties may include assisting with the application process and practice interviewing. Friday Job Club volunteer presenters are also needed to teach clients about American job culture. 2 hour minimum on an as needed basis. Bus Orientation Volunteers will provide directions and support to newly arrived refugees as they learn how to use the Milwaukee bus system (MCTS) to get around the community. Help new arrivals learn how to use the UMO bus app and access critical needs in the community. 3 hour minimum for each session on a needed basis Special Event (Holiday Folk Fair) Event Volunteer at the annual Holiday Folk Fair Volunteers assist with set-up, registration, monitoring event, serving food and much more at annual Holiday Folk Fair which IIW sponsors (weekend before Thanksgiving; November) 4 hour shifts Donations Assistance needed collecting and organizing donations of household and personal items for refugees. Volunteers will assist with intake of donations and assembling packages personalized for the needs/size of newly arriving families. This is an excellent opportunity for students majoring in human services, social work, political science, international business, psychology, and other related fields. Students at all points in their educational journey are welcome. This is an unpaid internship. Hours are flexible to work around the student's schedule. Duties will include working directly with refugees, setting up housing upon their arrival in the U.S., teaching clients to use the bus, organizing and distributing donations, doing informational and educational workshops, and assisting with office tasks, recordkeeping, and documentation. Requirements: Must successfully pass a background check, be professional, and have good cultural competence. bi-lingual/multi-lingual a plus, but not required.

The International Institute of Wisconsin is looking for dinner hosts in the Milwaukee area, who understand the value of hospitality! Through our International Visitor Leadership Program (IVLP), we welcome delegates to Wisconsin each month. They are brought to the U.S. by the Department of State to participate in professional exchanges. These emerging leaders represent a variety of fields: global economics, agriculture, law enforcement, STEM, education, journalism, government, judiciary, youth, women's leadership. Visitors travel to 3-4 cities across the U.S over 3 weeks. During their visit, the they enjoy the opportunity to sit down and share a meal with American citizens. Visitors are anxious to experience American cuisine, culture and traditions. Meals may be home-cooked, pot-lucks, picnics, BBQs, with a local family, a group of friends, or an organization. Hosts are needed in the greater Milwaukee and Madison, WI areas.
