The Literacy Council of Frederick County is looking for volunteers with teaching experience and/or experience working with English Language Learners. (Teaching experience can be as a volunteer or paid instructor. ) Volunteers will lead ESL classes in Frederick County to serve adult English Language Learners in our community. Currently, our classes are running virtually via Zoom. We do plan to offer in-person classes throughout the county in the near future. Based on your availability, weekly classes can be scheduled during the day, evenings, or weekends for approximately 60-90 minutes per class. We ask for a minimum commitment of eight weeks; however, this can be a longer assignment for volunteers who wish to serve for an extended period. Instructors will use the Ventures curriculum series in an engaging, student-paced environment. Volunteers must be over the age of 18 and live or work in Frederick County Maryland. All new volunteers are required to attend a Volunteer Information Session via Zoom (approx. 60 minutes) and six hours of virtual tutor training, divided into three 2-hour sessions. Description
We have been serving Frederick County for over 60 years, providing one-to-one or small group tutoring to adult learners in Frederick County. We serve native English speakers who have low reading and writing levels and English language learning adults. We also provide community classes, parent literacy classes, and workplace classes.
