Presbyterian Homes and Services Hospice program (Optage Hospice) would love for you and your furbaby to come once a week or every other week for 30 min. - 2 hours and visit hospice patient(s) at your local Presbyterian Homes location. Does your furbaby (cat, dog, bunny, or bird) love to visit with people? Do they not jump up, not react to loud noises and are able to listen to commands and provide people with love? If you answered yes to all three questions you and your pet are more than likely a good fit as a hospice companion. Animals do not need to be certified therapy animals to help bless our patients as a pet visitor. Contact the Volunteer Coordinator with questions or to set up a meet and greet and talk more about what being a hospice volunteer entails. Hospice provides compassionate care that focuses on comfort, quality, and support for individuals with terminal illness, their families, and caregivers. What does it mean to be a Companion Volunteer? It could mean a lot of things depending on the patient that the volunteer is matched with. You will work one -on-one with the patient, and sometimes their family, Some examples of what volunteers have done in the past include: reading novels and/or the Bible to patients; writing letters; painting nails or doing hair; household tasks; wheelchair walks; accompanying patient to activities, events, or Chapel so that they are able to participate, if desired; socializing; playing games; reviewing pictures or videos; pet therapy; music therapy; massage therapy. Pet visitors also needed. Your talents, skills, and interests can help determine what you do. Volunteers become certified through Optage Hospice's training program. Optage Hospice specializes in provide comfort care services to people experiencing dementia in the end stages of life. Volunteers must be comfortable with the idea of working with someone with dementia; training and continuing support is provided to all volunteers.

Volunteering Purpose: Voluteering with Optage Meals provides a golden opportunity to directly help individuals in your community. Our volunteers deliver much more than a meal! They also deliver warm smiles and much needed safety checks to seniors and adults with disabilities. You will make valued connections with your neighbors and help them remain independent in their own homes. Volunteers assist with delivering and putting away meals if indicated, bringing cheer and TLC to clients.
