The low-income senior citizens and families who live in AHC's affordable housing building appreciate having free, healthy groceries delivered to their property. AHC needs volunteers with their own vehicles to delivery the groceries (milk, eggs, fresh produce, canned goods and more) to home bound residents living near The Shell, 870 S Greenbrier St in Arlington VA. Help needed on Mondays, 11am-1:15pm. AHC is a non-profit affordable housing organization that believes Housing + Education = Success. AHC runs year round education programs at seven community centers in Arlington, VA. We give each student a bag of tasty snacks to keep them energized while they study and learn. Volunteers can help by purchasing and assembling snack bags at home. This is a great project for families and groups. There is a supply list listed on the sign-up genius link below. Assemble bags at home. Decorating the bags is fun but optional. When families move into AHC's affordable housing communities, we like to give them Welcome Bags filled with household supplies to say "welcome home." Volunteers will purchase items and assemble the bags. The bag can be a paper grocery shopping bag, reusable grocery size bag or large gift bag. For purposes of hygiene and dignity, we ask that all items are new, unopened and unused. Please make sure items fit into the bags and limit your donations to the items listed below. We do not have the space or capacity to accept other items. Thank you! A complete bag includes: Kitchen cleaning sponges All-purpose cleaner Dish soap Hand soap Paper towels (2 pack) Toilet paper (4-6 pack) Optional: Oven mitts and/or pot holders Optional: Dish towels Optional: Welcome to the neighborhood card Welcome bags will be delivered to an AHC property in Baltimore City or Baltimore County.

Affordable Homes & Communities (AHC) hosts a variety of fun, community-building events for residents every month. We’re looking for volunteers age 14+ to help with set-up, clean-up, serving food and running activity tables. We have two locations in Alexandria that are having evening holiday parties and need volunteer help. Friday, November 22, 4:30-7:30pm (or part of that time) - Bingo and Community Dinner at Jackson Crossing, 120 E Reed Ave, Alexandria Wednesday, November 27, 4-7pm (or part of that time) - Thanksgiving Celebration at The Spire, 2280 N Beauregard St, Alexandria If you can help at either those, you can sign up here or email us at volunteer@ahcinc.org.

Make a difference in the life of a student. Volunteer opportunities are ONCE A WEEK, IN-PERSON in Arlington, VA. Affordable Homes & Communities (AHC) believes Housing + Education = Success and has three education programs: The After School Program for elementary school students runs Monday - Thursday. Brain Time volunteers help with homework, reading and educational games for an hour sometime between 4:00-6:00pm depending on the community center. Teen Tutoring programs run between 6-8pm Monday - Thursday. Volunteers help middle & high school students with homework, organizational & study skills. The College & Career Readiness program mentors are matched with a high school junior or senior and set their own meeting times at public locations.
