Mission Statement

Feeding God's starving children hungry in body and spirit.

Description

Christian non-profit Feed My Starving Children (FMSC) has tackled world hunger since 1987 by sending volunteer-packed, nutritious meals to 70 countries. These meals are specifically designed to reverse and prevent malnutrition and are used in schools, orphanages, clinics and feeding programs to break the cycle of poverty. In 2023, FMSC welcomed more than 1.1 million volunteers to pack more than 448 million meals through its permanent sites and nationwide MobilePack program. The Minnesota-based charity spends more than 90% of total donations directly on feeding the hungry and has earned the highest 4-star rating from Charity Navigator for 18 consecutive years. Visit fmsc.org for more information.

During your packing session you will be participating in an assembly line process. With the help of volunteers, dry ingredients are poured into bags, the bags are weighed and sealed, then boxed and put onto pallets. If we have volunteers that are unable to stand for long periods of time, they are welcome to sit at tables and label bags. Your packing session includes a brief orientation and video followed by packing instructions. Your packing shift will conclude with a short closing. During that time you will learn how many meals you and your fellow volunteers have packed.

This organization continues making the hungry not hungry and making them feel like they are apart of this community which they are and they is a great feeling to have, knowing that you are thought of even in some hard circumstances. I thank the Feed My starving Children Foundation for being a place where the hungry can be happy. Naje Watkins

While trying to find a volunteer opportunity for my 6th grade daughter, I came across this one with Feed My Starving Children. After reading the reviews, however, I almost took a pass at choosing this one, as the most recent review left by Andrea M. indicated that FMSC was not willing to sign her district form for her students' volunteer hours. I am so glad I didn't place too much weight on her review. FMSC DOES provide confirmation of your volunteer hours, but it is on THEIR form. At the end of each session, you just need to ask them for the confirmation and they are more than happy to provide it. I took my daughter to a Friday night session and she enjoyed it so much that we went back the very next day and volunteered for another session. Our Saturday afternoon session was easily comprised of about 40-50% grade-school aged volunteers. Every staff member I saw was very appreciative of every volunteer in attendance. I would highly recommend this organization. We had a blast!

As a school volunteer coordinator, I help students find wonderful opportunities to give back to the community. However, I only recommend places that will treat them with respect and that seem to have integrity. I can no longer send children to FMSC because they refuse to spend a couple seconds signing a district for verifying children's hours spent there. When I inquired why, the gentlemen explained that they don't have time and inferred that they have plenty of volunteers and don't need our students. I love their purpose but not the hypocrisy of their mission statement and treatment of youth volunteers.

So many positive experiences with this organization it's difficult knowing where to begin. My wife and I volunteer here at least monthly, participated in their Million Meal weekend and it has always been an amazing experience. They begin with a brief introduction of who they are and what they do, followed by a short video about who they serve, what they serve and where around the world they serve complete with brief conversations with the children that benefit. It is impossible to begin this experience without a sense of gratitude for the opportunity to serve but also a tangible sense that you, in a couple short hours will make a direct impact on the lives of children dying of malnutrition and starvation. Once packing begins it transforms into a high energy event of purposeful involvement. In the end stories of recovering children are shared, tallies are made to tell how many lives you've impacted, the food is prayed over and small samples provided. OUTSTANDING experience! Do it!!!

It is a very fun and meaningful experience. Jobs are available for all age groups, from packaging to making labels to helping in the warehouse. It is very organized and fun.

WOW...Where do I start? I will start with the fact that we brought Skyline H.S. Boys basketball teams to FMSC, not only was a good time, it benefited the less fortunate but also was a great way just to get our boys together for a friendly competition of "who can get the most meals made and boxed"! It WAS truly spiritually rewarding while teaching our boys a valuable lesson about those less fortunate! Lastly I will say that this is a great group activity and way to get people together for a GREAT cause! Now my husband has signed up his whole office for a session!!!!!!

Hunger has always been a core concern for me, and this is the first time I really felt like I was making a difference. By actually taking part in the process and knowing that the food would reach the children and families who need it most made it very real for me. They are truly making a difference in the world.
