The Community Engagement & Advocacy Team is responsible for the Network’s political advocacy initiatives. There are a number of ways the team engages in policy and advocacy to advance the mission and vision of the Network. These efforts include but are not limited to: determining which legislative bills and ballot measures the Network will support; gathering and disseminating advocacy resources to human service professionals; and working with community partners to advance professionalization and compensation equity in the human services sector. The team meets on the second Tuesday of each month from 6:30-7:30 via Zoom. Responsibilities: Network with community/advocacy partners Help implement our advocacy events Gather relevant advocacy information for the team to discuss Contribute content and ideas to assist the Network in promoting advocacy via social media, on our website and in the HSNC newsletter Qualities (desired but not required): Passion for advancing equity, for both human service professionals and for those they serve. Knowledge of the legislative process and experience with various forms of advocacy (lobbying, letter writing, canvassing, etc.). Proficient in verbal and written communication skills Interest in social policy and law

Virtual Opportunity
The Marketing & Membership Team is responsible for organizational communications. The goal is to raise awareness of the Network, increase membership, and promote events. The Team meets on the first Wednesday of each month from 5:30 to 6:30 pm. Currently, all meetings are virtual, via Zoom. Responsibilities: Recruit potential members, member agencies, community groups, and partners. Follow up with lapsed members; Develop marketing materials to include presentations, electronic and web materials, print materials including newsletter, and outreach opportunities; Create and implement a marketing plan, oversee marketing campaigns; Develop newsletter and manage social media postings; and Host events that roll out new initiatives and/or offer opportunities for organizations to network with their colleagues. Qualities: Outgoing/persuasive/friendly; sales or marketing experience helpful; enjoys talking with people and utilizing verbal and written communication skills to speak or write about the Network and potentially give presentations to interested groups.

The governing body of The Network is the Board of Directors, which establishes policy and directs the activities of the organization and Training Team. Members govern the overall direction of the Network and provide input and resources to the organization’s programs. Participation in a leadership role offers a chance to be a key player in shaping the Network’s future and to gain practical leadership experience, along with developing a network of professional contacts. The Board reviews and makes recommendations regarding training activities, approves policies, and makes decisions regarding organizational finances. Board members serve as officers, Team co-chairs or appointed representatives. Members are elected each June to serve two-year terms beginning in July, with a limit of two terms. The Board meets monthly on the third Wednesday from 6:30 to 7:30 pm. It requires a time commitment of up to six hours monthly. Board Members are expected to: Be a member of the Network Make a financial contribution to the organization Attend all board meetings Provide input to operations As able, participate in training events, events, and fundraising efforts Promote the Network to colleagues and community Board members are responsible for the financial success of the organization, including funds from contributions, training attendees and memberships.

The Network’s Professional Development Team implements an annual schedule of training and networking meetings and oversees other opportunities to share information. The Network holds monthly training events, ranging from free lunchtime discussions to full-day conferences. Many of our current workshops address the trauma resulting from the pandemic and how it can be managed by workers and their clients. the training team meets on on the 3rd Wednesday of each month from 5:30 to 6:30 pm, immediately prior to the board meeting. The team will work with the co-chair/board liaison to attain the approval of topics and expenditures, the executive director, and the marketing team to produce and distribute registration forms and flyers, listserv announcements, registration information, and reminders. The Network holds monthly training events and quarterly social events: Quicklearns are conducted to offer current information and provide networking opportunity. Typically 90 minutes with a presenter or a panel for 50 minutes at the beginning, and time for networking & announcements. Trainings are in-depth coverage, typically by an 'expert’ or a combination of presentation, panel, and discussion. Social/Networking Events We offer social events several times a year. Free to all, these events provide an opportunity to share resources and information with peers. Each event needs to be coordinated-speaker, logistics, marketing, etc. Staff usually handles this though at times a group of co-coordinators can share these tasks. Determine what specific subject within the topic needs to be addressed-will it meet the needs of attendees, does there need to be a panel in order to address a diversity of needs, who are the leaders in the field, Research and contact speakers Select date/time Provide a summary of info to the Network: title, objectives, trainer info, location, date/time Assist with announcing the event through your network, personal contacts, flyers Arrange for coffee/snacks, and if for a training event, a catered lunch; confirm costs with the ED, who will arrange for payment Confirm with the presenterprior to training about registrations, audience needs For in-person events, help with set-up, registration, introductions, food, clean-up The Network will approve all expenditures for each training (speaker and refreshments), and handles speaker fee negotiation & contract, registration forms and flyers, email marketing announcements, registration information, and reminders.
