Use your crafting skills to help others! Ascend Hospice is seeking volunteers to work from home on crafts to help support our team of outstanding nurses and certified nursing assistants, our palliative care and hospice patients, and our patient’s family members. We are seeking help with the following projects: Activity blankets/busy blankets (creative freedom sewing project) Memory bears and pillows out of patients' clothing for family members(sewing project, pattern provided) Cloth mask making (sewing project, pattern provided) Legacy Projects (interviewing, scrapbooking, artwork - supplies provided) Crochet or knit lap blankets Card making (painting/drawing/other mediums) Painting/drawing landscapes/scenery, still life to brighten patients' rooms Painting/drawing portraits to be given as gifts to family members as a way to remember their loved one Any other creative gift you are willing to offer! No matter your skill or level, your craft will be greatly appreciated and find a loving home with a patient on Ascend’s hospice and palliative care services. Ascend Hospice is seeking military veterans and interested civilians to provide companionship and support to military veterans on our hospice service through our Veteran to Veteran Program. American Veterans may have unique needs at the end of life; needs that are influenced by how they entered their military experience, combat experience, when their experience took place, their branch and rank, POW status, and if they have symptoms of or a Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder diagnosis. We are looking for any individuals who have a particular interest in helping this population. Opportunities Include: -Participate in Veterans Pinning Ceremonies -Providing Companionship and Support to Veteran Patients -Providing Support to Caregivers -Become Pen Pals with a Veteran Patient -Assist Administrative Staff with Veteran-specific projects

Pet Therapy helps to encourage movement and physical stimulation in hospice patients. It also provides numerous mental benefits for hospice patients like socialization, mental stimulation, companionship, and love. We are looking for pet therapists and pets who are passionate about all the benefits they bring and would like to contribute to the quality of life and joy of a person who has a limited life expectancy. Pet therapy certification is required. ***Volunteers are required to follow CDC guidelines, Ascend Hospice policy and practices, and facility requirements for infection control. At this time, we require volunteers to be vaccinated against COVID-19 in order to protect our vulnerable population of patients.

Ascend Hospice of Pennsylvania is seeking compassionate individuals to join our AscEnd of Life Doula volunteer program. Our AscEnd of Life Doula program equips volunteers eager and willing to accompany the dying and their families through an intensive, practically-based model of care, preparing doulas to provide emotional and spiritual support and guidance in the final days of life. End of Life Doula certificates are awarded once classroom training and required service of 100 hours is completed. The program is perfect for anyone (professionals, students, individuals who have retired, and all members of the community alike!) of an altruistic and empathic nature looking to help others and learn more about end of life.
