We are looking for volunteers to help at our After School program The After School program has two main components. The first is homework help, as well as tutoring in reading and math. The second half of each day consists of enrichment activities designed to expose the children to new activities and topics. The children receive both a snack when they arrive and a meal after their homework and enrichment time. There are occasional field trips or other special activities. Picture it. A student sits down to complete their homework. They begin to struggle and are about to give up. But then you sit down ready to tackle and break down the first problem with them. You walk them through it. The student just isn't getting it. You re-explain it, just in a different way. And it clicks. You see the bulb light up. It finally makes sense. Are you looking for a rewarding volunteer experience? Are you interested in helping young students succeed? Consider volunteering at the Seneca Street CDC! We aim to provide our students with an outstanding after school experience. We provide designated time during the After School program in which our students receive homework assistance from volunteers. Since many of our volunteers are from Daemen College and the University at Buffalo, we experience a true need for new volunteers in the month of January when college students are on their winter breaks. After homework time students are divided into groups and participate in enrichment activities such as Cooking, Girls on the Run, Computer Lab, Arts and Crafts, Indoor gym activities, Outdoor activities (weather permitting) and so much more. The day wraps up in the dining room where the students are provided a free hot home-made dinner before going home for the evening. After dinner is clean up time Our program operates Monday/Tuesday/Thursday/Friday between 3:00 and 5:45 pm. Please feel free to contact Beth Ewen for more information at bewen@senecastreet.org or call us at (716) 939-3501. We also provide a summer program for K-8th grade for 6 weeks in the months of July and August. It runs Monday/Tuesday/Thursday/Friday between 9:00am and 1:00pm.
