We make blankets and give them to children and teens who need a reminder that they matter, are not invisible, worthy of love, and that someone cares. Ill, abused, homeless, experiencing trauma. Blankets can be anywhere from 36"x36" (preemies and babies) up to a twin-sized blanket, 45"x60" (children and teens - those are the ones we ALWAYS NEED - the BIG ONES for BIG KIDS). Blankets can be sewn, crocheted, knitted, or quilted! Blankets, or "Binkies" as they're called, are delivered to our Binky Patrol chapters aross the U.S. The Area Coordinators then organize a group of people to sew labels onto each blanket. Once the labels are on, the blankets are delivered by yet more volunteers to local hospitals, crisis centers, police and fire departments, and other local agencies. The blankets are then given to children and teens in need of comfort. If you want to help us more, you can also have us send you labels to add and perhaps - if there is no chapter near you, you can deliver them to a local group that really needs them. We work with social services in most states and the groups they are tied to. We are also MrBallen.Foundation partners and tied to all of the organizations they serve. This is a great way for students to earn Community Service hours! https://binkypatrol.org/community-serivce/ Gather a group of your friends or family members, take a quick trip to your local fabric store, pick out some fleece, bring it home, make some blankets and deliver or ship them to a Binky Patrol chapter near you! If you sew you can make quilts. if you knit or crochet you can make afghans. Please be sure to use machine washable and dryable materials in all blankets. We'll be glad to help you find a chapter near you or help coordinate delivery. Contact us today! Thank you.

We are looking for volunteers to make blankets out of fleece. You do not need to sew! All you need is a pair of scissors and a little bit of time. Instructions are easy: Trim the edge of the fabric - the curly part with or without writing on BOTH edges.. Fold the fabric in 1/4 with all open corners at one end - no folds. Cut out a square about 5 inches in the corner. This will be your guide and keep you from making a "round" looking blanket. While it's folded ONLY CUT THE TWO sides by the "notch" you just cut - NEVER CUT ON A FOLD. This is when you cut the fringe. Using the scissors you cut 1" wide strips like fringe into the edges of the fabric (about 4-5" deep) Open the fabric. If it's two pieces you have cut, keep them aligned - we sometimes pin them in the middle to hold them together. Then simply tie the fringe around your finger like a balloon. You can also layer the fabric, using two pieces of fleece placed one on top of the other, cut the 1" strips through both layers of fabric, then tie the corresponding strips from layer 1 and layer 2 together like a balloon. There are other ways to do these that involve sewing the edges, braiding them. Those are fine, too. As long as they will hold together when washed and dried. Check out JoAnn fabrics for their coupons and kits that are ALWAYS on sale. Helpful Tip: If you know any quilters, ask for their help too! You can cut the fringe quicker by using a rotary cutter and cutting mat such as what quilters use. https://binkypatrol.org/category/patterns/fleece-blanket-patterns/ It's an easy project that can be done as a family, a group project, or individually. Contact: sfinch@binkypatrol.org for a drop-off or mail-in location near you! It's that easy! Chapters are listed on our website.
