Mission Statement
To provide King County with sustainable, cost-effective animal services, which protect people and animals, while providing compassionate animal care. Our organization is built on the cornerstone values of compassion and service. We demonstrate this commitment in the countless hours spent by staff and our RASKC volunteers to save animals' lives at the shelter and in the field. By collaborating with community partners, we are able to expand our programs and resources to provide even greater value to our residents.
Description
RASKC is an agency of the King County government, based in Kent, WA with volunteer satellite locations at Kirkland Petco, Covington Petco, Tukwila Petco, and Reber Ranch (Kent), in addition to hundreds of foster volunteers' homes. Outstanding teamwork between staff and volunteers is the key to our success. RASKC cares for about 5,000 animals each year. We are an open-admission shelter with a save rate that exceeds 92%!
Last year more than 770 volunteers participated in over a dozen teams, including foster volunteers, dog walkers, dog-enrichment volunteers, Dog Kennel Specialists, Pet Publicists, community-outreach volunteers, Shelter Helpers, Vet Clinic volunteers, Cat Meet & Greet volunteers, the Early Morning Cat Crew, the Cat Area Stray Team (CAST), the barn-cat program,and the cat-care teams at four partner stores. In any given two week-period, RASKC volunteers help out on more than 400 scheduled timeslots in any given week.

I've volunteered at RASKC in a variety of ways over the past 5 years and it has been such a rewarding experience. The managers and staff who I've worked with are so passionate about animal welfare, and very appreciative of the hard work volunteers do to support the cause. I was happy to find that there are many ways to volunteer at RASKC, including leadership roles, work from home opportunities, working with the public or behind-the-scenes, working with the animals (of course that's my favorite), event planning, community outreach, etc. I've seen many teenagers thrive as successful RASKC volunteers in what is effectively their first real "job", and it's also a great way for retirees to contribute their knowledge and skills to the community - and everyone in between!

I just want to say that the volunteer director was rude to me when I wanted to pick up an animal at the shelter and bring the animal to an appointment. I had forgotten either the date or time and emailed back to them to please tell me the date or time that I had forgotten and she wrote back to me in a very "lawyer" type way. I was astounded that the person that I had done volunteer work before would even treat me this way and for that reason I did not want anything to do with RASK. Good organization but poor style of getting back to me.

Volunteering at RASKC proved to be a terrific opportunity for me. Not only did I get to walk the dogs and find one I simply HAD to bring home, I was also exposed to other animal welfare programs. I developed what I expect will be lifelong friendships with other animal lovers. And the volunteer manager gave me a terrific recommendation which helped me land my current paid position. Definitely win - win.

I have volunteered here off and on for over 20 years. This is a very welcoming place and it feels great to help the animals and assist people in finding a great pet. The animals get wonderful care here with vets on staff.

Working with the animals and the people at RASKC has been so fulfilling to me. I thoroughly enjoy it and would encourage anyone who wants a positive volunteer experience to volunteer with RASKC.

I have been there almost 11 years and it is very rewarding to see the amount of adoptions we do every month. We have over 6 off site adoption stores and fundraisers to raise we awareness and money to keep our animals healthy.

I volunteered for a little over a year at RASK. I had no idea how much I would learn about cats & dogs. I wish I had that training when I got my two dogs. I loved being the dogs and playing with them. There is a sense of peace I felt when I was with them. I highly recommend RASK because of the quality of training that they provide.

RASKC is such a great organization! They have a great foster program and do so much for animals. I was also in the dog walking program for 2 1/2 years and it was so much fun and rewarding.

RASKC is a great organization that is dedicated to the animals it serves. I have volunteered for many years in different areas and have had the best experience. It is great to feel like my contribution is valuable to the organization and the animals it serves.
