Mission Statement
Support Lighthouse Preservation The Norwalk Seaport Association is a 501-c-3 nonprofit and owner of Sheffield Island and its Lighthouse since 1986. Our primary mission is the restoration, preservation, and maintenance of Sheffield Island Lighthouse to ensure access for generations to come. The Seaport Association derives 100% of its funding exclusively in-house through private and corporate donations, admission, events, annual membership dues, and merchandise sales. We depend on the generosity of donors like you to continue our on-going mission to preserve and disseminate the maritime and social history of the Sheffield Island Lighthouse.
Description
The annual Oyster Festival, sponsored by the Norwalk Seaport Association provides a significant portion of the funding needed to maintain the Sheffield Island Lighthouse operations. In addition to supporting the Lighthouse educational and restoration plans, it has become an integral part of the culture of Norwalk, and evolved into a community service event, where over $200,000 is raised by various other local nonprofit community groups to be distributed throughout the region in fulfillment of their missions.
