To enable adults to acquire the English language skills they need in reading, writing, speaking and understanding to solve the problems of daily life and to enhance their quality of life.
To accomplish its mission, the Council recruits, trains and certifies volunteer adults (18 years or older) to be tutors using the phonics-based Laubach Way to English. The student is matched with a tutor and they meet usually twice a week for an hour to an hour and a half at their mutual convenience. Besides the Laubach Way to English curriculum, two other curricula are available: the Crossroad Cafà Â(c) video series and ELLIS, a self-directed computer program for teaching English.
