With more than 100,000 visitors each year, the volunteers and docents are critical in ensuring visitors receive a first rate experience! As a volunteer or docent at Fossil Rim, you can offer your support to suit your schedule and your skills. We request a minimum commitment of 50 hours per year along with participation in three of the six scheduled meetings per year. Our volunteers are called on to help in many areas from administrative tasks such as mailings, data entry, and filing to outdoor activities including special events. Volunteers also have the opportunity to assist in the nature store and café during busy seasons. Our docents undergo additional training to learn to conduct conservation education programs, tours, and assist with special events. Whatever your talents, experience or capabilities, we will put your energy and time to good use! Due to the unique challenges facing all our volunteers and docents, we have limited the program to adults 18 years or older. Trainings are held twice a year in February and August. Training is required for all levels of involvement. Many of our docent/volunteers believe that the peaceful setting of Fossil Rim and its wildlife are ample reward for their participation. In addition to the beautiful surroundings, Fossil Rim offers rewards based on the total hours of service for the year. An Awards Luncheon is held each year, honoring docents/volunteers for their commitment and the Volunteer of the Year award is given to the volunteer/docent who has the most hours of service for the year.
