Mission Statement
The Metropolitan Council on Housing is dedicated to organizing a tenant movement capable of winning strong, broad tenant protections and an adequate supply of pemanent, affordable housing for low, moderate, and middle income residents of New York City. We believe in the motto 'housing for people, not profit.'
Description
Who are we?
Met Council is dedicated to the belief that everyone deserves a decent, safe, and affordable home, and organizes tenants to be the force behind achieving this reality. We have been at the forefront of the housing movement for the past half century. We work to combat displacement at the individual level through our tenant help hotline and clinic while bringing tenants together in citywide campaigns to fight for structural changes to solve the affordable housing crisis for current and future generations.
Who are our members?
We are run by, led by, and funded by our members, with nearly 900 dues paying members in every borough. We believe that tenants - those most affected by the housing policies of our state and city - must be the driving force behind changing those policies. Our members staff our clinic, hotline, radio show, and newspaper. They also attend lobby visits, join us for rallies, and meetings.
