During my tenor working with HHP I found it rewarding and challenging, innovative, and very educational. There were so many things that I was not aware of as it related to invisible illnesses prior to my working with this organization. The founder is very patient about the research and information that is put out and everyone who works there does so as a volunteer which shows just how dedicated you have to be in order to be selected to join the team. I had the privilege to volunteer from 2018-2020 in various roles which each helped me on my career journey. I would volunteer again tomorrow if selected. HHP is a great organization to be part of!

They seem to be unable or unwilling to handle the application process - or there's nobody at the wheel. Lengthy intake forms largely redundant with VM and LI profiles, the usual "we will reach out to you if we believe there is a fit" - and then crickets. Have to ask myself if I'd want to volunteer for a company like that.

I have and am currently volunteering with HHP. It's a great and noble organization. There are other reviews mentioning shady and unresponsive experiences. All I can say is we are a volunteer run organization, even HR. We try to do as much as we can with the bandwidth that we have as working people with families and hobbies. Sometimes things are missed or not done to perfection. But also, we often do great and amazing things to help vulnerable and underserved patients. Please do reach out if you're a fit for a role and have the appetite to work for a good cause. We do need the help. And we're doing the best we can.

Because I have friends that like to help people

I highly discourage you from applying to the HHP as what they're doing is just collecting everyone's resumes. They advertised for a role in which I have more than 10+ years of professional experience doing plus I have extensive volunteering experience. I had also gone through the trouble to write a cover letter to explain how my past experience is pretty much what they're looking for as it ticks all the boxes in their volunteer description and I outlined what I believe I can contribute upon joining their organization. Upon sending my details, I have heard nothing back for months but I kept seeing the same role advertised over and over again. Looking at the other reviews for this non-profit I guess this is a common pattern and VolunteerMatch should review and consider removing this organization from this site. This site is intended to match volunteers with non-profits, if the non-profit is not looking for volunteers it should not advertise for non-existent roles.

Don't know if this is a real position or not, but if it is, it's extremely shady. Very discouraging that even very sincere, committed, compassionate passionate, and very well qualified people do not even get a chance to help: no selection process. "HR" person (who, interestingly, is also a volunteer) tries to discourage applicants right at the start through a questionnaire, collects resumes and discriminates right out of the gate, ignoring most relevant and appropriate qualifications -- have never ever in my career not ended up with at least an interview and/or hiring, very suspicious. May also be because the "HR"/org may have special friends who they give positions to regardless of qualification (though for no pay, just experience), like in 2008, when some employers were hiring their close friends/relatives without even an interview.

It did not work out for some reason I cannot identify. I was just ignored after signing all the papers. It has been a long while since I applied for this but it has been in the back of my mind to provide some feedback on this experience.
