Looking for a rewarding pastime? Look no further. Being a hospice volunteer is very rewarding and helps to improve the quality of life for almost everyone involved! Typical volunteer opportunities would be: Patient Centered Opportunities: reading/singing/playing cards with the patient, looking through old picture albums, allowing them to share life stories, or simply be a friend/companion. Caregiver Focused support/Respite: Sitting with a patient while their caregiver rests, goes to their own doctor appointments, goes grocery shopping, etc. Task Oriented Opportunities: Light housekeeping, Meal Prep, or Light Yardwork can also be very helpful for patients/families. Enrichment Services: Pet Therapy (Pet must be certified), Hair care, Music/instrumental, Art Projects, etc. Veteran Support: Help give back to someone who gave for our country! Clerical Work: Help answer phones, make phone calls, make up packets, file papers, etc in the office. Volunteers do not provide hands-on care and no specialized training is needed. Volunteers and patients/families are matched to hopefully provide an optimal outcome for all parties. Flexibility! Volunteers have the flexibility of seeing patients as much or as little as your time permits. Visits are coordinated to work with the patient, family, and volunteer's schedule. Location: Private homes and Care Facilities (Nursing Homes, Assisted Living Facilities, Independent Living Facilities). In and around Independence, Lee's Summit, Blue Springs, Oak Grove, Belton, Kansas City MO, and Harrisonville. Thank you for consideration in helping make someone's day a little brighter!
