Mission Statement
To protect, preserve, monitor and revitalize the health of the lands and waters of the greater Winyah Bay watershed, focusing on local activism through the Waccamaw Riverkeeper Program.
Description
We educate and advocate for the protection of a clean and ample supply of water for all beneficial uses. These uses include drinking water, habitat for unique and native plant and animal life, and recreational opportunities. The Waccamaw Riverkeeper is the primary spokesperson for the protection of the Waccamaw watershed, a black water river located entirely in the coastal plain of southeastern North Carolina and northeastern South Carolina. In addition to the Waccamaw watershed, we watch over the other rivers that drain into Winyah Bay, including the Lumber-Little Pee Dee River, Great Pee Dee & Sampit Rivers, Black River and Lynches River. We are licensed members of Waterkeeper Alliance, an international affiliation of grassroots organizations working to protect your water from pollution.
