Mission Statement

To preserve and maintain the site of the Shaker community which once existed at Pleasant Hill; its countryside, and the records and articles pertaining to its builders; and to make available these buildings and grounds for the broader uses of culture, education and recreation benefiting the citizens of Kentucky and others who visit the Commonwealth.

Description

Operated as an independent, nonprofit educational corporation, Shaker Village of Pleasant Hill receives no government funding. The museum depends on private contributions and revenues from visitor services to be self-sustaining. Culture and customs of the western Shaker order in 19th century is presented by skilled, costumed interpreters bringing history to life and life to history. Visitors experience the vast and fascinating story of this faith-based community that once thrived on the site now restored and preserved as a National Historic Landmark.
