Mission Statement
History San José preserves and enriches the cultural heritage of San José and the Santa Clara Valley through research, collections, partnerships, educational programs, and events.
Description
History San José (HSJ) operates the 14 acre History Park in Kelley Park and the Gonzales-Peralta Adobe & Fallon House Historic Site in the heart of downtown San Jose, as well as a Collection Center and Research Center. Our History Park site features affiliate museums such as the Chinese American Historical Museum, the Portuguese Historical Museum at the Imperio, and the Museum of the Boat People and Republic of Vietnam, in addition to our docent-guided buildings such as the Stevenson Fruit Barn, the Bank of Italy, and the David Umbarger House. With the help of volunteers, we also run electric streetcars out of the historic Trolley Barn every weekend barring rain or special events.
Through our sites, employees, affiliates, and volunteers, HSJ serves the community with school programs, public tours, special events, and access to research material.
