Mission Statement
The Colorado Refugee English as a Second Language program, housed at Emily Griffith Technical College, strives to deliver high-quality English language instruction to newly arrived refugees. Caring teachers, administrators and volunteers throughout our organization provide the means for refugee students to obtain the acculturation, communication and literacy skills that are critical to survival and success in a new country.
Description
The Colorado Refugee ESL (CRESL) program at Emily Griffith Technical College provides English language instruction to newly arrived refugees. Refugees who cannot attend classes study in a home setting with a volunteer tutor. The majority of the adult refugees who come to Colorado each year spend some time studying in the CRESL program. Most of the refugees who study in the home tutor program are women with small children, persons with disabilities or their full-time caretakers, and seniors. At any given time, at least 30 refugees in the Denver area are waiting for the instructional services of a volunteer in-home tutor.
