Do you have a few hours a week to help your elderly neighbor get to a doctor's appointment or pick up essential groceries from the store? Volunteer Chore Service drivers use their own vehicles in their own time and can claim mileage reimbursement. Our clients are low income seniors and disabled adults who live independently in their own homes but who do not have family or resources to provide this help. We match you with someone in your area and you chose to accept the trip when we call. We ask that you carry car insurance, driver's license and have a good driving record. Our office is in Olympia and we cover Lewis, Mason and Thurston Counties.

Projects vary. Volunteer Services currently is seeking knowledgeable home repair folks to help with small scale home repairs in the homes of low-income seniors and adults with disabilities. Home repairs can include help with ramp construction, railing installment, putting up grab bars, furnace repair, minor plumbing repairs, and other various carpentry related repairs. There is no time commitment on volunteering, volunteer when you can for the projects you feel comfortable helping with. Helping upkeep the quality and safety of someone in need's home truly makes a great difference in their life!

Volunteer Services is looking for folks to help mow lawns and pull weeds in Mason, Lewis, and Thurston Counties! Many of VS clients are elderly and do not have yard care equipment of their own, so being able to bring your own mower and tools would be ideal, but is not mandatory. Come make a difference in someone's life and help clean up a yard! This can help prevent fall risks for folks with mobility issues, and also restore a sense of pride in one's exterior home. Great opportunity for outdoors enthusiasts and those with green thumbs!

Volunteers are needed to help with light housecleaning in the homes of low-income seniors with disabilities in need in the Chehalis and Centralia areas. Clients are in need of help twice a month or more for an hour or two to help with cleaning that has become too difficult for them, such as sweeping, dusting, vacuuming, cleaning a bathtub or shower, and changing sheets. Volunteer Services works to support low-income seniors and adults with disabilities to continue to live safely and independently in their own homes. Come meet new, wonderful people and make a direct impact in someone's life!

Volunteer Services (VS), a program with Catholic Community Services, uses volunteer help to meet the requested essential needs of independently living low-income seniors and adults with disabilities throughout Lewis, Mason, and Thurston counties. VS operates two small firewood banks to supply clients who use firewood as a source of heat access to emergency loads of wood during cold months. Part of keeping our firewood banks replete with adequate amounts of firewood to meet client needs, we must continuously plan on harvesting firewood. The program is in need of committed volunteers who have their own chainsaws (and can safely use them!) to help cut up downed trees that are about a foot in circumference at our current harvesting site in Tenino. The wood would ideally be cut into firewood size pieces, particularly because many of the Volunteer Services clients cannot pick up large pieces of wood for health and mobility reasons. The wood could either be left for another volunteer to haul away to a wood bank, or it could be hauled by the volunteer who cut it up to the wood bank when they are finished. The area is beautiful, wood is light and dry, and driving a truck to park next to the patch of woods is accessible. Harvesting wood can happen as a volunteer is available, and times are extremely flexible. Helping cut up wood once a month could make all the difference in keeping our wood banks at a proper capacity to meet client need. Volunteer Services also reimburses volunteers for any mileage to/from a volunteer site, and has an extended liability insurance that all volunteers are covered by through Catholic Community Services. Give the gift of heat to a senior in need this winter season!
