Job Lab Computer Assistant Mission: Evergreen Goodwill provides quality, effective employment training and basic education to individuals experiencing significant barriers to economic opportunity. Because jobs change lives. Position Description: Lab Assistants help students during regularly scheduled computer lab times. Students utilize the lab for language learning software, job search, homework, cashiering and customer service practice, and more. Primary Responsibilities: * Supervise the computer lab during your scheduled shift. Language Learning Lab: ·Help students log on/off computers and language learning software ·Answer questions regarding language learning software functionality Career building Lab: ·Assist students with WorkSource job search resources ·Help students with online job search ·Support students with cover letters and resume Keyboarding Lab: ·Help students log on/off computers ·Answer questions regarding correct typing techniques Open Computer Lab: ·Help students log on/off computers. ·Support students if they have any questions regarding their homework ·Roles and responsibilities vary slightly by Job Training and Education Center location ·Other assignments as needed Reports to: Center Manager or Volunteer Supervisor Role Requirements & Abilities: * Experience working directly with people from diverse racial, ethnic, and socioeconomic backgrounds, or an interest in learning about it * Ability to flex communication style to multiple cultural environments Excellent written and verbal communication skills, and ability to present to diverse audiences, specifically racially, ethnically, and socioeconomically diverse communities * A solid understanding of, or interest in learning about, cultural humility and cultural responsiveness * Reliable, punctual and consistent * Patient, understanding, and caring * Strong listening skills * Strong computer skills General Open Lab/ Career building Lab/ Keyboarding Lab: ·Experience with (or the ability to learn) WorkSource job search resources, language learning software, online job readiness resources, basic keyboarding techniques, and more. Volunteers will spend time familiarizing themselves with specific software before they begin volunteering Essential Physical Abilities: * Able to safely lift/push/pull up to 10 lbs., grasp, handle, finger and manipulate items; perform repetitive fine motor functions with fingers, wrists and arms.Able to traverse a wide variety of physical environments without assistance including uneven surfaces and stairs.Able to communicate with others effectively, verbally and in writing; including those who have limited English skills, large groups and small groups and individuals.Able to use standard office equipment without assistance. Working Environment/Conditions: * Classroom setting; moderate noise level. Time Commitment: Schedules vary by center. Regular business hours, Monday through Thursday. Ten week minimum commitment. Tutoring sessions will occur outside of class time at a specified location within a Job Training & Education Center. Assist students with assigned coursework to increase student’s comprehension. Primary Responsibilities: Provide one-on-one and/or small group academic support to students in a variety of subjects (ESOL, reading & writing, computers, math, retail & customer service and more) as a supplement to classroom instruction. Position Description: Provide one-on-one and/or small group academic support to High School Completion class students. Tutoring sessions will occur outside of students scheduled class time at a specified location at the Bellingham Job Training & Education Center. Assist students with assigned coursework to increase student’s comprehension. Primary Responsibilities: Provide guidance and academic support to individuals or small groups. Preparatory work before tutoring sessions: identifying current lessons from instructors and creating examples/activities (role playing, practice exercises, reading materials, etc.) based on lesson plan. Walk through classroom activities and homework in various subjects. Provide a wide array of examples, depending on the student’s learning style. Other activities as needed Reports to: Supervisor determined during interview process Available Hours: Monday & Wednesday 9:00am - 11:00am Tuesday & Thursday 5:00pm - 7:00pm Role Requirements & Abilities: Interest in working in basic education focused on adult learners; previous experience teaching or tutoring valued but not required. Experience working with diverse individuals with multiple barriers. Reliable, punctual and consistent. Patient, understanding, and caring. Strong listening skills.
