Mission Statement

We serve unaccompanied homeless and at risk youth - and young parents with children of their own - up to their 25th birthday. Our ongoing mission is to end the cycle of youth homelessness.

Description

Youth homelessness continues to be one of the most challenging issues facing our society today:

Over 2 million kids are currently homeless in the US

Youths make up 27% of the total homeless population and are the fastest growing segment

Half of all homeless kids are under the age of 15

13 homeless teens die on the street every day

Teens leave their homes for many different reasons, but ultimately because their home is an unsafe environment. These kids "couch surf" at the homes of their friends if they are fortunate, or find ways to live anonymously on the street if they aren’t so lucky. Some of them go it alone, some of them reach out for help, but all of them dream of a better future.

Our all-volunteer organization, STANDUP FOR KIDS Silicon Valley, helps these homeless teens ages 12-24, by providing them with the basics of food, clothing and hygiene products, assisting them with school, medical and legal issues, getting them vocational training and job search assistance and working with them to create a life plan for that better future they desire. Our core programs are outreach, mentoring and housing support.

why not? I think there are people like myself who want to make a difference, but aren't confident that they can nor have the information about volunteer programs
