Volunteering with Compassus is a rewarding way to enhance the lives of hospice patients and their families. You'll find companionship with fellow volunteers and joy in serving others. Hospice volunteers are part of a very special team of people who serve patients receiving end-of life care and their families, working together to perserve dignity and quality of life. Currently looking for volunteers to visit in Ft. Madison, Donnellson, Montrose, and surrounding areas. Our local Compassus office is located in Washington, IA - serving southeast Iowa. Volunteers must be 18 years or older, undergo a background screening and complete volunteer orientation. Volunteers generally volunteer 1-2/month. Special teams such as the Angel Program - offers companionship so no one dies alone; working with the Alzheimer's population; Tuck In Calling - offering support for the patient or caregiver each evening or the Bereavement Team who offers support to the family after the passing of the loved one. Whether you volunteer behind the scenes at our local office or one-on-one with families, you'll be joining fellow volunteers helping families navigate life's closing chapters. The Davenport office services a wide area including Dewitt, Maquoketa, Clinton, Muscatine, and surrounding areas. They should be reliable, punctual, and prepared for the tasks assigned to them. Good communication sklls are essential in this role. Hospice volunteers should have a good understanding of hospice services, as well as, the hospice philosophy of care, taught during orientation. Volunteers can be a great source of comfort and help to both the patient and family members.
