The Colleagues of Hospice Compassus are committed to keeping The Hospice Promise by delivering the highest quality of care, serving the needs of patients and families and spreading the stories of hospice to those with whom they come into contact.

Description

Most volunteers feel personally rewarded through offering their time, energy and compassion when they see how much they are able to help patients and families. Further benefits frequently experienced by our volunteers include:

  • Greater self-knowledge from insights gained from relationships with patients, their families and from the hospice volunteer training.
  • Spiritual growth from supporting a person through the final days while increasing the awareness of their own sense of spiritual values.

The people that make up Compassus are dedicated to compassionate care, clinical excellence and providing comfort and support to patients and their families with end-of-life issues. This includes our volunteers.

At Compassus, we believe that every life is unique and deserves a meaningful and personal final journey. Perhaps you’ve experienced hospice services with a member of your family, or are looking for a meaningful way to volunteer your time. If you believe that giving your time can enhance the lives of others, we encourage you to explore volunteer opportunities with Compassus.

My onboarding process was made seamless through my knowledgeable volunteer coordinator. Gisela D.S. has not only welcomed and prepared me but has kept my learning on hospice volunteer work an ongoing worthy cause.

Compassus is full of friendly and helpful people who really do care about their patients and volunteers. I learned a lot during my time volunteering at Compassus and was able to have a very flexible schedule while I was there. Everyone, especially my supervisors Janet and Skyler, was available to help me learn more about the hospice and medical fields and answer any questions I had. I would highly recommend volunteering here.

I have volunteered with Hospice Compassus for over a year. I have volunteered a few other places, but this organization was by far the best. Skyler got me set up with a great patient and helped get me started. He was truly a great person to work with and was always willing to help me in any way I needed. If you want to truly make a difference in someone's life- and have great people to guide and lead you, definitely look into volunteering for Hospice Compassus.

Hospice Compassus is a wonderful organization to volunteer with where you truly are able to make a difference in a person's life and form a unique bond with the patient during their final days. As the volunteer coordinator, Skyler was extremely helpful with anything that I needed during this new experience. He did an amazing job pairing me with my patient and was always there to offer any advice or guidance. Compassus offers schedule flexibility and will work with you based on whatever your schedule may be. I would highly recommend Skyler and the rest of the Compassus staff!

For anyone interested in volunteering with a great organization and making a difference in people’s lives, please consider Compassus! I have volunteered for almost a year and have had a great experience. Skyler, the volunteer coordinator, helped me with anything I needed and really made sure I was comfortable. He was available anytime I had a question or just wanted to talk. Since I was volunteering while also in school full-time, this was a great opportunity that allowed me to have flexibility when volunteering. I’ve honestly loved volunteering with Compassus and Skyler has been so accommodating. I can’t recommend him and Hospice Compassus enough!

I first came across Hospice Compassus via LinkedIn September 2016. I have volunteered for many years in various clinics/hospitals & very much enjoyed my time at Compassus. As a Hospice Receptionist, I worked with Bonnie & Veronica, assisting them with various phone calls & administrative tasks. They were easy to work with, approachable when asked questions, & more than willing to assist in understanding their policies. Skyler is an excellent volunteer coordinator that is helpful & friendly. He takes initiative as a leader & truly creates a wonderful environment for volunteers. He is also understanding & accommodating. Unlike most hospitals which require volunteers to devote a certain amount of hours, Skyler allows for scheduling flexibility; this helped given my job/school commitments. Whether you are seeking a way to give back to the community &/or learn new skills, volunteering for Compassus is an excellent choice for you.

Throughout my time volunteering with Hospice Compassus, Skyler helped me in multiple ways. Finding patients compatible with volunteers is not easy, but he did it well. The patients that I was able to visit were ones that fit my personality well. Along with connecting me with the right people, Skyler was the most reliable person I've worked with. If I had questions or concerns, he would talk to me and help me with whatever needed, even if it was on his day off. As a student, it is hard to find people that are willing to go out of their way to help you when it's not required, but Skyler did. Along with Skyler, the staff was friendly and wonderful overall. Though I didn't interact with others as much, the times that I did they were welcoming and wonderful to be around. I'd definitely recommend Hospice Compassus to a fellow volunteer, or a family in need of Hospice services.

I would like to thank Skyler Vanderhoof for giving me the guidance when beginning my Hospice journey. Him along with everyone I've met, Soledad, were amazing. I can see how personable and compassionate they are and it definitely uplifts my spirit. I wish you guys the best and couldn't have asked for a better team to have worked with. While at Hospice, I had the opportunity to meet such great people and have even made long term friends. I will miss being able to ask the patient how they are and hearing their side of the story, who they are, and words of wisdom. Being a hospice volunteer reminded me of how we should respect and care for one another and one by one be able to make life changing decisions to better ourselves. It is as simple as listening and can definitely be rewarding. I would love to recommend anyone to volunteer, any little bit helps.

This was one of the best organizations that I have volunteered at. Skyler was AMAZING in finding the perfect patient for me and was able to work around my schedule. Everyone was very welcoming and I highly recommend volunteering here!

I have been volunteering for Hospice Compassus for two months. I go in about 2 to 3 times every week, and I love it! I needed community service hours for an honor society I am a part of, and I wanted something that would look good on my resume for nursing school. I am so glad that Hospice Compassus needed help! The office is very laid back. There is no pressure to meet a minimum amount of volunteer hours, no uniform to buy, and the staff is friendly and helpful. Skyler Vanderhoof is the volunteer coordinator, and he goes above and beyond to take care of his volunteers. He is an enthusiastic leader who makes volunteering fun. I am a currently a full time student so I was worried about committing my time else where, but Skyler assured me that school comes first, and I can come in whenever I am free for as long (or short) as I feel comfortable with. I would highly recommend volunteering for Compassus.

My name is Mary and I am applying to a Physician Assistant program this year. I wanted to add volunteering to my resume so I began searching and found Hospice Compassus through volunteermatch.org. I was a little nervous about volunteering in hospice until I met Skyler, my volunteer coordinator, who quickly put my worries at ease. He took the time to consider not only my schedule but also my personality before he matched me with a family. Skyler was able to find the perfect family for me to volunteer with and I couldn’t be happier! In a short amount of time I have been able to gain over 20 hours of volunteer experience as well as a few new friends that I have now become very close to. I highly recommend volunteering with Hospice Compassus, I can say that it has changed my life and I know that it will do the same for you. Sincerely, Mary
