Right now, minority entrepreneurs are facing unique barriers to business success. At SCORE, we’re working to change that by removing those obstacles and providing minority-owned businesses with access to personalized support in our SCORE for All program: to meet business owners where they are and help them reach their business goals. As a mentor you will use your industry-based knowledge and expertise to help clients solve problems, increase business efficiency, and assist with developing long-term business plans. Mentors often have significant experience within their field, excellent communication skills, and the ability to dedicate a few hours a week. As a Subject Matter Expert (SME), you will be asked to provide specialized support and advice to assist a SCORE mentor when an entrepreneur needs information on a specific topic. Minority-owned businesses need support in several areas including (but not limited to): government contracting, minority business enterprise certification, financial management, bookkeeping, human resources, website development, digital marketing, IT infrastructure, business development, and startup strategies. If you have a few hours per month and want to share your knowledge in support of local small business owners, become a SCORE Mentor or Subject Matter Expert. Every SCORE chapter depends on the talent and time of volunteers to help entrepreneurs achieve their dreams of small business ownership. Volunteers are needed now more than ever as entrepreneurs are working tirelessly to find information and resources that will help them stay open during the pandemic. We’re currently looking for volunteers to work on specific projects. These volunteers are staffed based on their unique skills and are invited to assist with leadership and support tasks - they really are the backbone of the organization. For example, as your chapter's marketing chair, you'll be able to sharpen your email marketing, networking, and social media skills while helping your local business community. As a chapter admin, you can aid your local chapter with data and analytics, helping with online events, or serving in other capacities that will make your local chapter more effective. These are just a few examples of support roles where your contributions can make a difference in reaching and supporting local small businesses. Other examples of chapter support roles include Community Ambassador, Partnerships & Fundraising, Media Contact for National and Local PR, Treasurer, Webmaster, and more.
