Mission Statement
Provide services that increase adult literacy in our community
Description
At ELC, volunteers provide literacy tutoring and ESL classes to over 900 individuals in the East King County Region. Free, confidential tutoring in basic skills (reading, writing, math) for native English speakers and four levels of English-as-a-Second Language classes and talk times are offered. ELC tutors also work with students preparing for GED testing and external diplomas. Classes and tutoring are in public sites that are most convenient to the students. ELC also works with families through a homeless shelter and at the department of human services. Our vision is a fully literate society, enabling all to reach self-sufficiency. As one ELC student said, "Reading gives me the resources to solve my problems."
