Mission Statement
The mission of Rolling Readers is to inspire children, with less opportunity, to love reading through read aloud volunteers and new book ownership. The ultimate goal of Rolling Readers is to prevent the devastating consequences of illiteracy among the children of San Diego. By instilling excitement about books and a love of reading, Rolling Readers creates a foundation for early literacy.
Description
Rolling Readers USA is a nonprofit 501(c)(3) organization established in San Diego, California in 1991. Wherever we serve children, families and communities in need, we continue to attract the attention of educators, businesses and community leaders. Rolling Readers USA reaches out to children through our Read Aloud and Book Give Away Programs. Taken together, Rolling Readers USA programs offer children a uniquely balanced and effective approach to early literacy development: motivation through reading aloud and independent reading through book giveaways. Program books and materials are available in English and Spanish. PARTNERSHIPS AND COLLABORATIONS Public schools districts, Even Start and Head Start sites, public housing developments, family shelters and other community-based sites sponsor Rolling Readers USA programs and volunteers locally. Several corporate stakeholders, including American Honda, Edison International, and Sony Electronics offer their employees "release time " to serve the community as Rolling Readers in various locations throughout the country. For the local school or community-based site nearest you, please contact the Rolling Readers USA Chapter which serves your area.
