Habitat for Humanity of Greater New Haven welcomes groups of volunteers from businesses, faith congregations, colleges, non-profit and civic organizations. Group volunteering is a wonderful team building experience, and many of our groups return on an annual (or more frequent) basis. Work days are Tuesday through Saturday, 8:45am to 3:30pm. Saturdays are understandably in high demand; we recommend calling a month or two in advance to schedule. Weekdays are more readily available and can often be scheduled 2-3 weeks in advance. We works year-round. Construction experience is helpful but not necessary. Our professional construction staff will train your group. Generally, the maximum number for a group is 8-12 people. Smaller groups are also welcome. Group volunteers are expected to arrive together and remain the entire day. WE DO NOT SCHEDULE PARTIAL DAYS OR LATE ARRIVALS. Habitat asks that your group make a financial contribution in conjunction with volunteering. (This applies only if your group is not already a Habitat sponsor or donor.) Your contribution will be used to purchase tools, equipment, and building materials that your group will use when they volunteer. Groups that donate in addition to sending volunteers may request multiple days or the addition of a few more volunteers. However, depending on the stage of construction, Habitat may or may not be able to accommodate these additional volunteers. Suggested levels of financial support are: Corporate Groups-$750-$1,500 per group depending on group size and number of days requested Small Businesses-$250-$500 per group depending on group size and number of days requested School Groups and Congregations-$100-$500 per group (schools and congregations may consider doing a tool drive in lieu of a financial contribution.) To arrange a volunteer date, groups must contact the Habitat Volunteer Coordinator, Allison Mangles, at (203) 785-0794 ext. 110 or amangles@habitatgnh.org. Volunteers must be 16 or older to work on a Habitat construction site. Previous construction experience is helpful but not necessary. Volunteers should be reasonably physically fit. The work is strenuous and, for safety reasons, is not appropriate for pregnant women or persons with severe allergies to dust. ALL VOLUNTEERS ARE REQUIRED TO SIGN A WAIVER OF LIABILITY. All volunteers must register through Volunteer Up (cut & paste into browser: http://habitatgnh.org/volunteer/volunteer-up/) and then sign up for the date their group coordinator has pre-arranged with the Habitat Volunteer Coordinator.
