For volunteers, Jewish Big Brothers Big Sisters is the place to make an impact, forge new personal/professional connections and grow as a leader in the Greater Boston community. We are well-known for our pioneering one-to-one mentoring programs for kids/teens, but did you know we also operate two friendship programs for adults with disabilities? In our Friend 2 Friend community program, we introduce local adults who have disabilities - Jewish and non-Jewish - to a volunteer friend. Volunteers are Jewish and non-Jewish professionals, parents and grandparents who believe in innate human potential and one's capacity to achieve it with the right supports. Friend 2 Friend matches create their own schedules and get together 2 hrs once a month for a year. They participate in activities they mutually enjoy (coffee, lunch, movies, hiking, biking, crafting!), and the agency sponsors match activities throughout the year (fun parties, sporting events, and the list goes on!) The other program is a group option called MAGIC where matches meet for 2 hrs, one designated Wednesday per month, for a year, at preplanned staff faciliated group activities with other pairs of friends. Currently, over 50 adults are awaiting for a Friend. A year commitment is required. NO PRIOR EXPERIENCE WITH PEOPLE WITH DISABILITIES REQUIRED. JBBBS serves all demographics in over 100 cities and towns in Greater Boston.
