Mission Statement

Founded in 1977, the Wagner Society of New York is a not-for-profit organization chartered in New York State for the purpose of furthering the appreciation and performance of the works of Richard Wagner. We are among 130 members of Richard-Wagner-Verband International e.V., and are a sister society of Richard-Wagner-Verband-Leipzig. The Society maintains a broad range of international contacts.

Description

The Wagner Society of New York has approximately 680 dues-paying members whose contributions fund monthly programs of speakers, a bi-monthly newsletter, live-streaming of events, an annual half-day Seminar, a program of grants to singers, an annual recital, access to priority tickets to the Bayreuth Festival, and many other events. The Board of Directors and Officers serve as volunteers and contribute time, talent and commitment to the fulfillment of the Society's objectives. The Wagner Society of New York is by far the largest such Society in North America and maintains healthy relationships with the Bayreuth Festival, the International Wagner Verband, other English-speaking Wagner Societies, the Metropolitan Opera, and individual artists around the world.
