Description

The Natural Resources Department is responsible for the protection and enhancement of the town's natural resources, enforcement of laws relating to fish and game, marine and recreational use, land management and environmental laws. The department provides protection and enhancement of the town's shellfish resources through shellfish propagation and stocking projects. Natural Resource officers patrol town conservation areas and beaches to enforce local by-laws and state and federal wildlife, fisheries, and environmental regulations. The program provides support for commercial and recreational shellfish harvesting, including environmental functions associated with endangered species and resource management. Natural Resources is also responsible for the upkeep of all town herring runs.
