Mission Statement
Meet some of the most influential women in history, America's First Ladies. Listen as costumed characters reminisce about the private lives of very public families. To volunteer or book an appearance: 330-853-7050 or americasfirstladies@gmail.com. Enthusiastic women of any age who enjoy history, costumes, and speaking or acting, from NE OH, W PA, or N WV are invited to join. No scripts or speeches. Select from a list of available characters and study that person in detail so that you can interact as they would. Performances have 3-5 women return the White House for tea and conversation for 30-60 minutes. Focus on themes (holidays, gardens, family & children) or times (early America, war, Victorian, modern) or Ohio's own. New members take on one character. We provide help with attire, character info, and prompts if you get stuck. Perform a few times a year or more if available. It is a fun and welcoming group. Sound like you? Orientations in November & observe a performance on 12/10/24.
Description
Salem Preservation Society's motto is to "Preserve the Places of Our Past." The organization was formed in 1994 to preserve architecturally and historically significant sites, objects and landscapes in the Salem, Ohio area, and to promote educational, artistic and cultural activities that will increase community awareness of the importance of the preservation of Salem's heritage. The First Ladies began performing in 1998 as a way to provide insight into national and state history since 8 presidents hail from Ohio and some have local connections.
