Mission Statement

A 501(c)(3) non-profit organization, empowering and inspiring birthing families and those who support them through education, mentoring and connection. Our goal is to help as many pregnant and new families who fall between the cracks that need community support.

Description

The idea of Community Calling is more than 15 years old. Ruth saw the vision of creating access to the training to help underserved communities find the support they needed. She knew how beneficial a doula program would be and has been working on trying to bring awareness to the idea to anyone who would listen. Over time the vision became more and more clear and as the understanding of doulas and the benefits to new parents became more mainstream, everything started to fall together. The ripple effect also became more clear. In a time when connection is most needed in our communities, this was created to help those in the community who have a calling to help the community that is calling for help. Including single mothers, low-income families, women of color and their babies, military families who are struggling and those who are isolated from the connection and support they deserve.

In 2018 she filed to get 501 (C) (3) status and proceeded to find funding for trainings and programs. Since 2020, she secured a small bit of funding from the Children’s Services Council, to train yearly cohorts of 15-30 Doulas students. Through that process we realized that more support was needed for those doulas and to be mentored and supported as well. So, as we move forward, we are looking to create a more comprehensive offering to the community who is calling for us to come together and help.

Together, we can reduce the birth trauma, postpartum depression and Maternal and infant loss.
