Mission Statement
They say it takes a village to raise a child. Our mission is to rebuild the village, protect, educate, and empower children to grow up with dignity, hope, and joy. Our core strength lies in our values and principles, which will always guide the work we do. The following values and principles set out explicitly what we stand for: a. Honor God We are committed to honoring God in all that we do. b. Cooperation beyond Boundaries We understand, accept, and value differences between people including race, ethnicity, gender, age, religion, and disability. We treat all people with dignity and respect. c. Impartiality We do not discriminate as to nationality, race, religious beliefs, class, or political opinions. We endeavor to serve every child, being guided solely by their needs, and to give priority to the most urgent cases of distress.
Description
- KNOWN is a community-based organization that started in 2024 and is based in Coastal Kenya. The inspiration for the name KNOWN came from the very definition of the verb which is- recognized, familiar, or within the scope of knowledge. The Idea for KNOWN was conceived in the year 2022 when the founder, while working as an advocate in a small town called Voi in Taita/Taveta was constantly encountering heart-wrenching cases of child defilement for children as young as 14 months old. Most of the perpetrators were family members, teachers and persons in positions of trust in the community. Something had to be done. She saw the need for an organization exclusively devoted to all matters children. A coming together of the community to be the voice for the voiceless and defenders of the defenseless. At KNOWN we are passionate about preserving the innocence of the child and are devoted to safeguarding the rights and welfare of children. We challenge the status quo to radically uplift children's place in society and campaign for a genuine shift in how governments and societies view and treat them. Using policy, art, advocacy, and direct service we press for rights, as well as the physical, emotional, and mental well-being of the children.
