Mission Statement

Crittenton's mission is to ensure that every teen girl--her race, ethnicity, and family income notwithstanding--has the support, knowledge, and skills she needs to thrive.

Description

Founded in 1887, the organization began as a home, a training center, and the national headquarters of a powerful social movement that supported single mothers. In 1983, we sold the home, changed our name to Crittenton Services of Greater Washington, and began delivering school-based programs to promote the healthy development of the "whole girl." Our programs provide teen girls with experiences that help them become more confident in their abilities to succeed. Additionally, they develop valuable social and emotional skills, learn how to avoid risky behaviors, and have access to resources and mental health services. As a result, they become more motivated to learn, succeed in school, and pursue higher education.
