Position Title: Chief Financial Officer (CFO) Location: Remote Job Type: Volunteer Reports To: President Indirectly Reports To: Vice President (in the President's absence) Collaborates Closely With: Chief Operating Officer (COO), Chief Development Officer (CDO), Executive Director, & Executive Office Staff. Position Summary: The Chief Financial Officer (CFO) is a key executive role within the Mountain Valor Foundation (MVF), responsible for providing strategic financial leadership, overseeing the organization's financial operations, and ensuring financial integrity to support MVF’s mission. Reporting directly to the President and indirectly to the Vice President in the President’s absence, the CFO works closely with the COO, CDO, and other senior executives to drive financial sustainability, manage risks, and optimize resource allocation in alignment with MVF’s mission to serve wounded veterans and first responders. Disclosure: As MVF is in its growth phase, this position is currently an unpaid volunteer-based position with flexible time requirements. The incumbent who volunteers, is selected, and fills this role, dedicating their time, passion, and loyalty to helping us continue to grow will be offered a secured salaried employment position based upon successful fundraising efforts. Key Responsibilities: Strategic Financial Leadership Develop and implement MVF’s financial strategy, ensuring alignment with short-term and long-term organizational goals. Provide data-driven insights and financial analysis to the executive team to support strategic decision-making and long-term planning. Lead the Finance team to maintain rigorous financial oversight, budgeting, forecasting, and planning to optimize financial performance. Financial Operations and Resource Management Oversee and manage MVF’s day-to-day financial operations, ensuring efficient execution of budgeting, accounting, and auditing processes. Lead the design and implementation of financial policies, procedures, and internal controls to promote financial transparency and accountability. Optimize resource allocation to ensure funds are utilized effectively and in accordance with MVF’s strategic priorities. Fundraising and Development Collaboration Collaborate with the CDO and fundraising teams to support financial planning for fundraising campaigns and grant applications. Ensure accurate financial reporting for donors and stakeholders, reinforcing MVF’s commitment to transparency and impact. Support donor stewardship through impactful financial impact reports and engagement in fundraising events and initiatives. Compliance, Risk Management, and Reporting Develop and enforce financial compliance policies, ensuring adherence to all regulatory requirements and nonprofit standards. Oversee risk management strategies, including investment management, compliance, and insurance, to protect MVF’s assets. Provide regular financial reports to the President and Board of Directors, detailing key financial metrics, risk assessments, and financial performance. Technology Integration and Financial Innovation Lead the adoption of digital tools and financial technology to enhance data accuracy, improve financial reporting, and streamline operations. Drive innovation in financial processes, utilizing data analytics to improve forecasting, budgeting accuracy, and cost management. Leadership and Team Development Mentor and develop the Finance team, fostering a culture of integrity, accountability, and continuous improvement. Champion MVF’s values of transparency, integrity, and veteran/first responder-centered service, creating a strong organizational culture within the finance function. Qualifications: Bachelor’s degree in Finance , Accounting, or a related field (MBA or relevant advanced degree preferred). CPA or equivalent qualification strongly preferred. Minimum of 10 years of senior financial leadership experience, ideally within a non-profit or mission-driven organization. Proven expertise in strategic financial planning, budgeting, and compliance in a complex, fast-paced environment. Strong interpersonal and communication skills, with a demonstrated ability to collaborate across executive teams and influence stakeholders. Innovation and Digital Transformation: Proficient in leveraging digital tools to enhance financial accuracy, reporting, and operational efficiency. Additional Information Location: The position is remote, with responsibilities that may require occasional travel between sites.
