About Toby’s Hope for Canine Cancer Care Toby’s Hope is a nonprofit organization dedicated to helping families and their beloved dogs navigate the challenges of canine cancer. We provide financial assistance for canine lymphoma treatments and resources to support caretakers throughout the journey. Our website (Wordpress) is a key tool for pet owners, donors, and volunteers, and we’re looking to improve its usability to better serve our growing community. About the role We’re looking for a volunteer UX designer who can help us take our website to the next level! Your work will help make our site more user-friendly, accessible, and engaging. Whether you're a student building your portfolio or an experienced designer looking to give back, we’d love to hear from you. You’ll have the chance to evaluate our site, identify areas for improvement, and offer creative ideas to ensure our website reflects our mission and serves our audience effectively. This volunteer project is flexible and remote, with a target completion date of January 2025. Key responsibilities (You don’t need to check every box to reach out!) Evaluate the website: Look at design, usability, accessibility, and how easy it is to navigate on different devices. Spot accessibility barriers: Ensure our site meets basic standards like WCAG to create an inclusive experience for everyone. Improve user experience: Help ensure pet owners, donors, and volunteers can quickly find what they need and take meaningful actions (e.g., donating, contacting us). Boost SEO and engagement: Provide ideas to improve content, calls-to-action, and overall performance to help us reach more people. Share your vision: Present your findings and suggestions in a clear, actionable way, including wireframes or mockups for areas that need a refresh. What you’ll need Some experience in UX/UI design (you don’t have to be an expert-we value creativity and enthusiasm!). Familiarity with design tools like Figma or Adobe XD and basic knowledge of web platforms like WordPress. Interest in accessibility and creating welcoming digital spaces for all users. Passion for nonprofit work and a love for animals. What you’ll get A chance to make a real difference for dogs battling cancer and their families. Organization Overview Toby’s Hope is dedicated to providing financial assistance (WA only) for canine lymphoma treatment and diagnosis, as well as caretaker resources to support the owners and families of affected dogs. We believe that every dog deserves a fighting chance against cancer, and our mission is to ensure families have the support they need throughout their entire journey, from diagnosis to end-of-life. Position Summary The Board Chair plays a pivotal role in leading the board of directors and guiding the organization toward achieving its mission. The Chair will provide strategic direction, facilitate board meetings, and serve as the primary representative of the organization. The ideal candidate will be passionate about animal welfare, committed to supporting families facing canine cancer, and possess strong leadership and governance skills. Key Responsibilities Leadership and Governance: Provide leadership to the board of directors, fostering a collaborative and inclusive environment. Oversee the governance and performance of the board, ensuring effective decision-making and adherence to the organization's mission. Support and evaluate the Executive Director, providing guidance and mentorship. Strategic Planning: Work with the board and staff to develop and implement strategic goals and objectives. Ensure the organization remains aligned with its mission and community needs. Board Meetings: Schedule and facilitate regular board meetings, preparing agendas, and ensuring effective communication among board members. Encourage active participation and engagement from all board members during meetings. Fundraising and Advocacy: Lead fundraising efforts by engaging board members and the community in fundraising initiatives. Serve as a spokesperson for the organization, advocating for its mission to stakeholders, community partners, and the public. Community Engagement: Foster relationships with other organizations, stakeholders, and community members to enhance the organization’s visibility and impact. Represent the organization at community events, meetings, and conferences. Financial Oversight: Work with the Treasurer to oversee the organization’s financial health, ensuring proper fiscal management and accountability. Assist in the approval of budgets and financial reports. Qualifications Experience: Prior experience serving on a nonprofit board, with leadership experience preferred. Strong understanding of nonprofit governance and financial management. Skills: Excellent leadership, communication, and interpersonal skills. Ability to facilitate discussions, build consensus, and inspire others. Knowledge of canine health and caretaker issues, particularly canine cancer, is a plus. Personal Attributes: Passionate about animal welfare & mental health and committed to the organization’s mission. Ability to engage and motivate diverse groups of people. Strong ethical standards and integrity. Time Commitment Estimated time commitment of [10 hours per month], including board meetings, committee work, and community events.
