Mission Statement
Our mission is to stimulate connection and build community for adopted persons worldwide. We envision a world where all adoptees feel agency over their adoption story and experience a genuine sense of belonging.
Description
The Adoptee Mentoring Society (AMS) is a non-profit organization, founded in 2021 by Angela Tucker (www.angelatucker.com). We provide an intentional space of belonging for adoptees through group and individual virtual mentorship. We embrace adoptee journeys of all ages and believe that support for adoptees, by adoptees, offers an opportunity for true vulnerability, candor, empathy, and radical acceptance.
In mentorship sessions, adoptees discuss a wide range of topics such as: identity, birth family relationships, gender, sexuality, religion, and racism. Also, and of equal importance, is the space held for lighthearted moments including discussing hobbies, interests, and exchanging laughter. As one member said: "The Adoptee Lounge is therapeutic, impactful, and feels like a warm hug." Through these mentorship relationships, we aim to stimulate meaningful connections, promote personal growth, and enhance the well-being of adoptees.
