Mission Statement

The Shenandoah Valley Battlefields Foundation, works with partners to preserve the hallowed ground of the Valley’s Civil War battlefields, to share its Civil War story with the nation, and to encourage tourism and travel to the Valley’s Civil War sites.

Description

In 1996, Congress designated eight counties in the Shenandoah Valley of Virginia as a National Battlefield Site- the Shenandoah Valley Battlefields National Historic District, which preserves and interprets the regions significant Civil War battlefields and related historic sites.
We have three areas where volunteers can help: Visitor Services- Be on the front lines and help greet guests as a docent at different museum sites in the valley.
Battlefield Maintenance- help in preserving Battlefield property. Mowing, tree removal, fence building, etc.
Library/Archives- help with inventory, Cataloging, and research at the headquarters library.
