Mission Statement
Coco is dedicated to empowering and liberating Black women by promoting holistic healing that supports mental health and well-being.
Description
Coco Coalition began in 2015 as the Black & Beautiful Women's Brunch (BBWB), a response to Sandra Brown's tragic murder. BBWB quickly grew into a movement creating safe spaces for female-identifying Black women to learn about their rights, process emotions, and access community and mental health resources. By 2018, BBWB had reached over 200 women across six cities, four states, and two countries, leading to the founding of Coco Coalition.
Over eight years, Coco Coalition has supported Black women through:
- 38 events in 8 cities, 5 states, and 3 countries.
- 13 scholarships since 2020 for women studying mental health, civic engagement, or the arts in the U.S.
- The Coco Cares initiative, providing over 100 girls in Ghana with 400 packs of pads and 400 pairs of underwear to combat period poverty.
We run community events and initiatives like the "Black Women in Conversation" series and the annual Black Mothers Matter event. Our work elevates the unique experiences of female-identifying Black women, embracing each narrative into the Coco family. We offer in-person resources in the San Francisco Bay Area and virtual support globally.
Our holistic approach to wellness ensures every project and service aligns with the eight dimensions of wellness. From physical health and emotional well-being to social connections and professional growth, our initiatives provide comprehensive support at every level. This integration creates a transformative experience that nurtures each person's holistic wellness journey.
