Mission Statement
The mission of the Asylum Program of Arizona is to enable people who are at risk of persecution and deportation to obtain a full consideration of their claims for legal protection. We do this by screening cases, helping with case filings, referring cases to immigration experts, subsidizing the costs of legal representation for indigent and low-income people in Arizona, and advocating for a fair and impartial asylum process.
Description
Case for Support:
APA aids individuals meeting the international refugee definition by providing essential legal support that the government does not provide. Complex procedures often hinder access to protection, making legal representation critical. APA ensures access to justice for those in need.
2023 Accomplishments:
* Assisted 74 individuals in 42 cases, providing free legal counseling in nearly all cases
* Provided volunteer direct legal assistance in 17 cases
* Provided funds for legal representation in 13 cases
Our History:
APA continues a 40-year legacy of providing crucial legal assistance to immigrant protection seekers. We've evolved from various nonprofit entities during that time, now operating as our own 501(c)(3) organization since 2020.
