Alabama Hospice Care of East Alabama is seeking volunteers for our Pet Peace of Mind program. Volunteers in this program assist our patients in keeping their pets by their side for as long as possible. They provide support by walking dogs, caring for cats, arranging trips to the vet or groomer, and offering general companionship. Additionally, we are looking for donations of pet food, carriers, blankets, and toys. The Pet Peace of Mind program ensures that patients can complete their end-of-life journey without concern for their pet's immediate or future well-being. It offers volunteer pet care services for patients who are unable to look after their pets during hospice care. These services range from supplying pet food to facilitating pet transportation to veterinary visits, fostering, adoption, and more. Established in 2009, Pet Peace of Mind is the sole national nonprofit organization committed to improving the lives of hospice and palliative care patients by maintaining a nationwide support network for their beloved pets. Based in Salem, OR, Pet Peace of Mind provides its services to hospices, home healthcare agencies, and hospitals across the nation. Danielle M. Almaroad, BSN, RN, Executive Director of Alabama Hospice Care of East Alabama, stated, "We initiated Pet Peace of Mind to ensure that our patients have the comfort of knowing their pets will be well cared for. We aim to alleviate their concerns about their pets' current or future needs through our volunteer program. Navigating transitions is tough, and this program is one of the many ways we support and offer resources to our community. Our focus is on helping people." You can contribute to this cause by volunteering to support the bond between patients and their pets during their hospice care as a PPOM Volunteer.
