Two Daughters Foundation aims to support the mental health of teens and young adults facing the diagnosis, treatment, or loss of a parent with serious illness by providing spaces for conversation and connection through peer grief support groups, informative resources on mental health care and grief support, and resources to help young people and their loved ones access mental health care and grief support. Created by two sisters that lost their mom early in life to cancer, Two Daughters Foundation hopes to become a well-known safe space where young people can process their grief and move forward with empathy, compassion, and a desire to make a positive impact in others’ lives.
Two Daughters Foundation is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization currently based in Sacramento, California. Peer grief support groups are currently offered in Sacramento, including a Peer Bereavement Support Group and a Navigating Parental Illness as a Young Adult Peer Support Group. The Two Daughters Foundation website offers informative blog content on grief, mental health care, and disease prevention. The website also offers a Grief Support Locator that pinpoints grief support resources for all age groups and situations, to facilitate access to grief support for anyone seeking it out.
One of our goals is to expand our peer support resources to new communities across the country. Our specific goal for the next year is to bring a peer grief support group to the Willamette Valley in Oregon. With each new community we establish groups in, we need a dedicated and empathetic facilitator to help lead meetings and create a comfortable space for conversation.
