Mission Statement
We aim to change the systems that make waste by shifting the values of culture and commerce. We do our work by building partnerships with other organizations, government offices and local business and by modeling systems change such as repair over replace with Mend-It Cafe. We focus on textile, plastic and food waste. We promote systems thinking to build an understanding of the interconnectedness of all life and how the care and preservation of natural resources relates to the health and well-being for all.
Description
Spokane Zero Waste began as a Facebook group and has now celebrated its one year anniversary as a 501c3 Non-Profit. We run Mend-It Cafe, which is inspired by the repair cafe movement, where we fix clothing and household textiles and teach people how to do the same. We teach classes in upcycling to youth and adults and we produce a line of goods using a variety of waste materials including vinyl banners and billboards. We participate in grassroots organizing around policy at the local and state level
